Bladder Botox Treatments
We use Botox treatments to help our patients with overactive bladder (OAB). When medications aren’t working to help treat the symptoms of OAB, Botox is often considered as an alternative treatment.
How does Botox work?
Botox is a neuromuscular blocker and is often used in treating muscular conditions. When Botox is placed in the bladder muscle, it helps to block nerve signals being sent to the bladder that trigger OAB.
Once this treatment is started, it reduces the number of times you need to urinate, helps treat those sudden urges to urinate, and can reduce daily leakage by more than half.
When is Botox an option?
- When self-management options like using leakage pads or drinkings less fluids has stopped working.
- When your medication isn’t working or is causing undesirable side effects.
How are you handling your symptoms?
The symptoms of OAB include a sudden urge to urinate, leakage, and/or urinating too often. Sometimes it can be difficult to overcome the line of simply coping with your symptoms to actually being able to control them.
If you find that you are in any of the following situations, you might be coping with your symptoms and need extra help to control and overcome them.
- You are in a constant state of worry over your bladder issues.
- You use multiple pads a day to contain leakages.
- You plan your travels around restroom locations.
- You have stopped doing some of the things you enjoy because of leakage.
